Description:
The Rus' Prince Vsevolod III (r. 1177–1212), whose birth name was Dmitrii, acquired relics of Demetrios from Thessaloniki and built the Cathedral of St. Dmitrii in his capital at Vladimir. The church has a cross-in-square plan and the interior preserves some of its late twelfth-century wall painting. Its white limestone exterior features extensive relief sculpture with saints (e.g., Boris, Gleb, George, Theodore) and powerful kings and warriors (e.g., Hercules, Alexander the Great, King David, Constantine).
