Description:
Boran was a Sasanian banbishn, or queen, for two years (630–32). She was the daughter of shahanshah Khosrow (or Khusrau) II (r. 590–628) and Maria, a princess and daughter of the Byzantine emperor Maurice (r. 582–602). She took power briefly during a period of civil war and a string of assassinations. Boran's sister and successor had an even briefer rule. On her coin, she appears in profile wearing the traditional Sasanian crown with outstretched wings and a korymbos above a crescent. On the opposite side, two attendants flank a fire altar with ribbons. Star-in-crescent motifs surround the triple border on both sides.
