Description:
Several Mamluk enameled glass mosque lamps from the mid-fourteenth century can be associated with buildings erected under Sultan Hasan (r. 1347–51, 1354–61), including his mosque, madrasa, and mausoleum complex in Cairo. The lamp reproduced here has a calligraphic inscription that mentions Sultan Hasan by name, as well as a Qur'anic verse identifying Allah as the light of the heavens and the earth. It has a globular body with suspension loops and a flared neck.
