Description: This portrait of the biblical King David was once part of a Psalter made in Ethiopia. David is considered the author of the Psalms and is often depicted as a musician. This author portrait, painted in vibrant reds and oranges, features additional "Ethiopian" elements: David plays an Ethiopian box lute and wears a headtie and rod earring. On the back of the fragment, monks practiced their calligraphy.
